Australia - Baz Luhrmann's hulking epic, which doffs its hat in style and largesse to pictures such as Gone With The Wind and Casablanca - is almost a national security issue, so tightly guarded is the film's content.

I suspect that we here might know a bit more of the movie than all those Oscar pundits, having followed the filming and post...

Well after hearing some things, it did get me thinking. Dont know how happy i am with the alternates that I've heard, but I guess maybe it's only because we've come to know the original version as law lol.

My main concern is that they're too worried about the american market and their interpretation, understanding. And whilst they are a crucial market, they're not the ONLY one.

Yea I think so, and plus there's probably industry talk too. I was tempted to email him and ask actually.

And yea, remember when Tapley said that he heard great things about Hugh's performance, that was right about the time when Hugh was in the top 5 in Feinberg's prediction and stayed there, but like we've said a bajillion times, because the movie isn't finished and hasn't screened for people yet, the buzz is slightly fading only to be back in full swing...

Maybe by "breakthrough" he meant more on the "newcomer" line...

I actually just emailed Feinberg and asked him if he has seen AUSTRALIA or BB... just a "yes" or "no" type question. Here's to hoping he responds. =)

Has he seen the movie?? If so, he took of Jackman from his predictions (though he did keep picture, director, and actress in....) But it doesn't seem possible, because the movie isn't finished.

Quite very true Jo, that's what we've been discussing on the awards thread, the fact that this movie hasn't been seen while the other ones have and as of right now things are based off pedigree, both Hugh and Brandon were never nominated, Brandon even more so since this is his first film.

I think the fact that AUSTRALIA has not been seen yet by all these movie pundits -- compared to other films where the movie and extended movie clips ( remember BB has already shown a 20-minute clip?) have been seen, and talkative insiders have expressed views -- is at present working against Hugh Jackman's and Brandon Walters' Oscar prospects. Nicole, being a former winner and nominee, is a known factor so she is more favourably received at this point. But maybe in three weeks or so (...

Brandon has been on his radar since we started the Awards speculation thread, lol, that was DAYS ago and he's the only one who's ever even put Brandon's name in there. And he's the only one to put Hugh in his top 5 for some time, not now but at least he's there in the mix as a major threat as of now.

Wait a minute, has he seen a cut of it? Hmmmm, from that statement it seems as though he has but I highly doubt it, just like how Wells article made it seem like he's read the script but that I also highly doubt, I think they're making assumptions from industry talk and test screenings.
