I was happy because after some things I'd read I wasn't expecting Nicole to be in it that much, but she was definitely in it enough to keep me happy.

I can see why the film would have cost so much. All those special effects. They were really good though. ...All the "demons" (animals beside them) were often gorgeous and I liked how they mirrored their 'owner' or whatever.


Once again I'm left baffled as to how the religious groups got so up in arms over the movie. Err, have they even seen it? Had I not heard of their kerfuffle I wouldn't have even contemplated any connection to religious dastardy but then that's me...a complete heathen


Meanwhile, I heard they may not make the sequels. Everyone is bitching about how little it has made, but from what I've read it seems to be doing reasonably strongly. I don't think it will make a mammoth blockbuster profit, but including DVD sales etc, it should make its money back at least

T and I finally saw this at the cheap shows Saturday night. MUCH better than "There Will Be Snoozing." *ducks*

LMGAO, how flipping GAYTASTIC was Nic's entrance into the movie. She plays a total c#^! and I LOVED every minute of it. Slinking up with that monkey of hers alongside her.... and the bitch slap! I enjoyed this too much, apparently.

Some parts, I felt, needed more space and time to breathe, but often, the film succeeds incredibly well. I loved the daemons and the whole concept of them... although I was hoping they'd sneak the minor characters who are shown as having daemons of the same sex and therefore the big 'mos, in there, somehow, but alas. That would have made Pat Robertson's head explode. Perhaps both.

Anyhoo. I can sort of see why the Catholic Church would be irked with the book, because it depicts them as kidnapping children and robbing heir souls and such. Which, however true, probably doesn't do them good PR, LMAO. But they pulled a Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame," making what was corrupt and evil in the book (the church) into simply a corrupt and evil government/government official.

But yes, I enjoyed this very much, and, expecting the cut off ending, I kept expecting it to end in many different places?

Last I heard, TGC didn't do as well as expected here in the US. Before it opened was the last time we where in NYC, and they PIMPED THE HELL OUT OF IT EVERYWHERE. So that might have been a set back. Until it did so well on the global market-- overseas, it was a tremendous success, and the second and third parts are in the works.

LOL, I don't spend too much time thinking about this, but really, I think it's the strong and powerful woman scenario that I see, sort of, with my girl Hillary.
Nic wasn't much of a respected actress in the 90s, but moving into the later 90s, with awesome stuff like "To Die For." People generally viewed her as only rising to such a high profile status because of her husband. If it were a man, for instance, I don't many people would accuse a him of riding his wife's coat tails. But then when their divorce happened, and Nic broke out, she came out with a slew of absolutely astounding pieces of work. Eyes Wide Shut was sort of the bookend preview to TDF, to show what was to come, but after she hit with "Moulin Rouge," "The Others," "The Hours," and she got her Oscar, their was ultimately a backlash that any person who rises to such acclaimed fame has, whether it was fueled by jealousy or what. And I think the gender thing just enlarged that even more, and people accused her of capitalizing off her personal life with Tom. And then when she launches into these art films where she is just astounding in her choices bolder than any other actress working today ("Birth," "The Human Stain," "Dogville," even "Cold Mountain,") people get jealous, and I think it's this sexist thing where some people just don't know what to do with a strong woman like that, who's basically a commanding force of nature.
I see the same thing with Hillary. I can't tell you the sexist minutia that people try and use as an excuse not to like her. Not only do people constantly accuse her of riding Bill's shoulders (when, in reality and in actual public record she is this astoundingly independent woman who only, on occasion, has taken Bill up on her shoulders), but they accuse her of being "opportunistic," which, all politicians are, but you NEVER hear that said about a man. Because a man is simply "ambitious." Or if she shows ANY emotion, she's immediately criticized for being to weak, emotional, and the implication is the stereotype of a woman. And if she shows strength and stoicism, she's the cold hearted bitch who could never relate to the common person. Which is just total bullshit. Men never get criticized like that. It's like it's looked upon as girl to cry during sad movies, like chick flicks, but it's apparently totally okay for straight men to cry during crap like sports movies where I don't even shed a tear.
