I have a feeling that when Hugh hangs up his acting claws, he might consider being involved in public service in Australia

For the last few years, I've thought he's well-equipped to be a politician.
Today's Sunday Times has an interview with Hugh. It first appeared in the US Men's Journal last year but it's good to see it in one of the big Sunday newspapers. (The photos used are from 2006 and were previously used in Premiere and Men's Health)
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

So where ARE all these photos that these photographers take on the set????? Although Australia is mentioned here, that's the only time.
http://www.nytimes.com/20...s/design/28mark.html?_r=1
The first photo is Johnny Depp and says this:
I wonder if Australia will be anywhere... it's not in this story. |

Mary Ellen Mark has some great shots in the MR coffee table book. I really enjoyed seeing some of her behind the scenes shots.
Sigh, I wish we'd see some merch from this film. Im not even seeing any postcards or flyers at cinemas I go to. Let alone the possibility of a soundtrack and coffee table book. ![]()

A friend of mine on a Hugh Yahoo group alerted us to the fact that at LaGuardia Airport they have free magazines and she picked up the lastest issue of Arthur
Frommer's Budget Travel to look at. There was one article in the magazine about travel-inspiring movies, and Australia was # 1. I found the article
online:

@Kate@: They're giving away loads of flyers in my local, the one from the Empire ages ago, and I asked about the poster and they said if I put my name down
I should be able to have it when they're done with it. Still not much though, I know what you mean.
But touch my tears with your lips

RHPS Magenta wrote: This is the translation of page 25 and the first part of page 26 : Statuesque in a pink dress of ostrich feathers, Nicole Kidman, photographed by a paparrazo, stops, dazed, in the middle of the street, in New York. As if it were the last straw. Strangely, this is ... an advertisement for Chanel n°5, directed by Baz Luhrmann, which greatly portrays an actress : a feminine ideal, glamourous and typical to a fairytale, powerful but vulnerable. At over 40 years old, Nicole Kidman is naturally tall (~ 5'11") and slim. Her porcelain skin gives her a unique, beautiful face, sometimes disturbing ... With her pale skin and blond curls, as if she had been painted by Boticelli, Nicole Kidman shines like a statue. New mom of a little Sunday Rose, born last July, Nicole Kidman doesn't want to talk about her private life anymore, and tries to go away from a "people planet" who hurted her too much. She wants to be just an actress. And she is, surely, since she had so many big roles. Even if, according to the magazine Forbes, she is overpaid. Overpaid, Nicole Kidman ? Anyway, she is a workaholic, making film after film, and not of the easiest ones ... She can be Diane Arbus in Fur (2007) or Virginia Woolf in The Hours (2003), she's entirely commited to her work. Virginia Woolf will get her to win the oscar for best actress : beautiful Nicole wears an ugly fake nose, deepens her voice, rolls her own cigarettes, imitates the author's right-hand-writing, whereas she's a left-handed. In Moulin Rouge ! (2001), she portrays a sexy Satine, and does her own dancing, singing, and even learns how to use the trapeze ... She will break two of her ribs and hurt her knee. But the danger is over the physical performance and, when chosing her movies, Nicole Kidman doesn't hesitate to surprise herself, or challenge herself, for example in front of Lars Von Trier's camera (Dogville, 2003), Kubrick's (Eyes Wide Shut, 1999) and soon Wong Kar-wai's camera. In the middle of this demanding filmography, Nicole Kidman also stars in Bewitched (2005) or The Golden Compass (2007). Movies destined to have a great audience, but don't get the success the directors had hoped for. As for Australia, Nicole says "it's the movie I would have dreamed of doing when I was a little girl, in Australia". She's also going back to her roots, even is she portrays a British aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley. Born in Honolulu, in 1967, Nicole Kidman grew up in Australia. As a child, she loves to dance, but then decides to do theater. At the age of 13, she gets a few small roles. At 18, she stars in Bush Christmas and becomes a star in her country, and then gets the first role in the thriller Dead Calm. Her angelic face and red hair get her to be discovered by a certain Tom Cruise, on the other side of the Pacific. In 1989, he wants her to be a partner on screen for Days of Thunder and marries her, in 1990. Nicole leaves Australia for Hollywood, where she is not much more than "his wife". But not for long. In 1995, thanks to To Die For, from Gus Van Sant, where she portrays and ambitious woman with cathodic dreams, Mrs Cruise becomes Nicole Kidman again. And it's what she's been since then. Marie-Valentine Chaudon I hope I didn't make too many mistakes :/ I'll translate the other part later |

I was recalling some of Stewie's comments, and recalling some of Nicole's comments.
Nicole mentioned that Baz would just get heaps of unscripted shots of them kissing randomly whenever the lighting was good. So maybe some are in promos but not in the film for that reason. ALSO Stewie...or well, one of the early reviews, actually probably not him, but didnt some guy say there was way too much kissing? That definitely wasnt in the version we saw...so Im thinking the test audience ripped us off

RHPS Magenta wrote: You know Kate, the "too much kissing" does ring a bell now! I wish Stewie would come back and tell us how different the final version is (assuming he saw it) from the test screening he saw. I even remember one of us showing him that EW photo that wasn't in the movie and asked him if it looked familiar and he answered in a way that led us to believe it was in the movie. Ha! |
