Welcome, one and all, to the most flaming-est thread in our dear movie forum! So, let's list some good gay flicks. My favs include: -"But I'm A Cheerleader" : A classic. -"Saved!" : Mandy Moore can act? Who knew. Right after I rented this movie, I made myself buy it? -"Brokeback Mountain" : Probably the most hearbreaking could have/should have been love story I've ever seen. -"A Home at the End of the World" : Not a perfect adapation of the divine novel- but an excellent film that breaks my heart. -"Adam and Steve"- I laughed my ass off. -Imagine Me and You (Another new one- like, possibly the greatest lesbo romcom evah?): Some may think it's corny, but I totally fell head over heels for it? -Oh, "Velvet Goldmine" : So what if I had no idea what was going on at points. It was good? -Um... what else? Help me! Help! Heeeaaalllp! Why can't I think of anything? I see enough of them.... -Oh, "Beautiful Boxer", a forgein (Thai) film, a biopic of a transexual boxer... it sounds WEIRD, but it really is an amazing movie. -"Boys Don't Cry" : Brutal, devastating, required viewing for humanity. -thinksofotherappropriategaymoviestolistonboard -"Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" -Bryan "My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. Some of the serious parts are so melodramatic I burst out laughing..... but, I guess it's a sign of progress when there are so many gay films being made, how you can have everything from quality stuff like Bareback Mountain to the not so good, and the crappy crap. Ugh. Good movie renting streak has been broken again. In this modern gay classic, a truly scary looking drag queen, after being rejected from some gay play production tryout thing, creates a cult of Hollywood wannabes and attempts to use them as suicide bombers on the theater. Ian McKellan also is in it (his voice is) as he narrates a tape of the guy's grandfather when he was his age (18) in WW2. The grandfather's part of the movie is the best done part of it, while at the same time the most boring?!? Y Tu Mama Tambien Food Of Love Just a Question of Love Close to Leo The Adventures of Felix ...most of those are foreign language, except for Food of Love (it's English). I've noticed, when it comes to gay on film, American movies are pansy wimps about it, and the rest of the world is much better/honest? Oh, and Kate, I've never seen Connie and Carla? It has so many musical references and what not...it's not like a serious movie, but for fun it's great. I wasnt expecting anything from it, which is probably why I was pleasantly surprised. Until know I thought I had seen the finest cinema had to offer-- until this weekend, that is, when we rented the piece of brillance known as the (direct to video) "Bollywood and Vine". Here is a loverly amazon description: " Bhuvan Bannerji a Hollywood tour bus driver is "straight but confused". Delilah Leigh, an aging, has-been scream queen who hasn't made a film in over 2 decades, is the focus of his infatuation. He becomes obsessed with the idea of whisking Delilah off her feet and on to a set back home in "Bollywood". After writing "the greatest comeback movie of all time" a tribute to all those 1960's horror flicks that gave new life to the careers of Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, Bhuvan knocks on Delilah's door. He meets Delilah, just as gorgeous as ever, and her assistant Delia. The young bus drivers finds himself attracted to the actress, but imagine his surprise when he realizes that "she" is really Devin, the real Delilah's son, in drag! Delilah attempts to help the romance along by locking Bhuvan in the attic with Devin. Throw in a nosy neighbor, some outlandish situations and a gay wedding and you'll find that anything can happen on Bollywood and Vine! " The camera quality and acting is something between a reject from a soap opera and porn reject quality. I laughed my ass off. This is the campiest thing in the history of existence. For half the movie, the cute Indian guy doesn't even wonder why his idol actress has never aged. Or has an adam's apple. One part made me snort/laugh so weirdly, a got a popcorn kernel stuck in my nasal passages. This is truly an awful, stupednously hideous piece of crap. Run. Do. Not. Walk. I forgot Friday and Saturday night were going to be party nights, so Sunday was recovery and then Sunday evening was DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? Tonight, we go, though, because we're just such exciting people that we need entertainment during the week. When we go, on like a Monday or Friday night, we usually stock up and get like 4 or 5 at the same time.... Are you familiar with the Child's Play series, Kate? I'd seen them all but this one... Chucky the little killer doll always amuses me, for some funnily macabre reason. LOL, Britney Spears is in it, plays herself, and he kills her? I think I have to start respecting her now. Anyway, there's a GLBT element to "Seed of Chucky". For, it turns out that Chucky and his Bride's child is a doll of nondescript sex- with a generic British child's accent. So, Chucky and the Mrs. try to give him a gender.. but Chucky wants a boy, and the Mrs. a girl. Another friend of mine actually bought the box set with all of them but wants to watch them all at once, so seeing as she hasn't had a billion hours straight free, she's had to wait. I'll have to make sure I'm around when she watches Seed Of. Oh and next time you're at the video store, watch Connie and Carla. it's not the best movie ever, but tis better than I thought it would be, and like I Said, drag queens and singing Oh and have you seen Hedwig? Tis an aquired taste so you may hate it, but I'd love to know what you think. The pics are all dead and there wasn't much in depth discussion. But really tis a great witty movie, it started out for years on stage and it just grew in to this mammoth cult thing. They've only just brought a small version of the stage musical to Australia, only in one state though Also the music is great. AND if you don't like or get it at first it definitely warrants a second watching.
