Elizabeth from Los Angeles here, 49. Australia came out on video March 3rd in L.A.. Since our viewing Wednesday night, I
searched the internet for a friendly way to comment, compliment. Australia was a film I hoped to see at the theatre; I didn't make it out, and I should
have. This epic is the perfect fit for the big screen. Well done, everyone and a big thank you from me to its passionate visionary, Baz Luhrmann! Here's
a production company that cares about 'the big picture' and the smallest details of film-making and it shows. I can't think of a film I've
appreciated and enjoyed more. (I've already told seven people to make the effort to see it.) This film is easy to highly recommend for its warm surprises,
great chemistry, unparalleled cinematography. The unique, contemporary story with broad appeal is indeed on par with the decades old Gone with the Wind,
Dances with Wolves... - and it's better, giving the world a glimpse of Australia it didn't have before. I know I'm preaching to the choir here -
so glad to be in your company.

Exactly. Sometimes you really wonder. Always better to speak from a point of knowledge. See the movie then decide whether a critic had a valid point.
Someone mentioned to me Australia was long, but I didn't find it so. I wasn't bored; in fact, I felt I got much more than I expected. Unlike perhaps
most critics, I don't watch movies rating them against some subjective measure of perfection. I go to be moved, to be entertained; here, for me Australia
excelled. There is one experienced critic passionate about film I know who does his homework, Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times. I looked up his review of
Australia after watching the film; he made a few points but gave the film I think an overall shining review. He also was keen on Hugh Jackman's hosting
the Oscars (as was I!)

Generally I think it's best not to trust critics, unless over the years you've found one who generally seems to share the same views as yourself. I
think its far more worthwhile listening to friends, family, word of mouth...this is why the internet has become so great!
Problem with this film is that the critics lashed it before enough people could see it, so it damaged some of the US word of mouth, luckily the rest of the world made up their own minds!

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I did get to see the movie when it was at threatre. I loved it!! Alot people are comparing it to Gone with the Wind,, but I think it's better than that. The dvd was released on March 3rd which was my 50th birthday, so that was very special for me. I thought the acting in this movie was priceless. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it since getting the dvd for my birthday. It's made me a fan of Nicole, Hugh, Brandon ( he has enchanted me). I live outside Phoenix, AZ. I was raised and lived mostof my life in Long Island, New York. I love learning about other cultures. It's really a passion of mine! I am single and still looking for my "Drover". I adore animals especially dogs and cats. I am changing professions, to phlembotomy. I love computers, music, movies, photography. Hi Bobbie, what a great introduction!
I think that's one thing a lot of international people do like about this film, is the different sense of culture. ... I think some Australian's feel that way too though, as it' isnt the 2009 urban perspective. But it's nice to have something different to watch at the movies other than your big city flicks, right? Anyway, Im glad you got a nice birthday present, how fitting! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! KATE

I too have been looking for a way to let Baz, Nicole, Hugh, Brandon, and everyone involved with "Australia" know what a GREAT movie they made. I absolutely LOVE this movie!! The multi-layered plot, the brilliant acting by everyone, the drop-dead-gorgeous cinematography, the captivating soundtrack, the wonderful insights into the Aboriginal culture, the depictions of the way of life on an outback cattle property, and the theme of hope made this one of the very best movies I have ever seen. I also wish they would release the movie's soundtrack - it is so beautiful! Sometimes I put the DVD on just to listen to the music. It is a shame the U.S. audience did not better support this wonderful film. I really think it came out at a terribly awful time in the U.S. - the whole country was under an enormous, dark economic cloud and was worried sick about the future. I think most people were trying to save every penny they could and were just too upset and depressed to go to the movie theater. They really missed out! This is a beautiful, magical movie and everyone involved in its creation should be so proud of their work. |

Though the film had a lot of naysayers, there's so many of us out there who really fell so much for the film and it's just important that we share that perspective. WELCOME

Location: France Age: 24 How did you find us: I Googled. 
How did you find out about Australia?: I heard about it for the 1st time through Allociné, a French website about movies, around the time a 1st teaser was realeased. Previous fan of Nic, Baz, Hugh, other, all?: I knew I had to see this movie coz it was about Australia, which is my home away from home. And it was a Baz film and I really loved "Romeo + Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge". I liked Nicole Kidman quite a lot before and I had seen several of her movies, Hugh Jackman's too, but I think this movie really contributed to making me a huge Hugh fan. |
