I LOVED him in "Apt Pupil" with Ian McKellan.... and always wondered what happened to him. It's such a shame, to have addiction take a life away like that. Posts: 2597 01/23/08 02:56 Mod Luhrmanness	Yes, I found out as soon as I arrived at work this morning... one of my colleagues said she'd got an e-mail that Heath was dead, and she thought it was a cruel joke. But then we checked the net and found out it was true Heath was found in an apartment in NY, allegedly naked in bed with sleeping pills in the room. The family says it was accidental, but they are doing an autopsy and it will probably take time to determine what exactly happened. But whatever the case, it is a great tragedy, and Australia is mourning tonight. RIP Heath, and my heart goes out to Michelle and their daughter, Matilda. Baz the Great! & Australiamovie.net

Surprising, well, not, but...interesting to see the effect it has on people (also as opposed to someone like Renfro who passed last week). I think it's a MUCH bigger deal here in Australian because he's homegrown and what not. And as one of my friends mentioned it happend in the USA during G'Day LA so there's a lot of Oz/USA interest going on right now. This is just disgusting. So much potential, in life, in family, in career. Poor Michelle... I know that they had split up, but still. And his daughter. I even heard that his ex, Naomi Watts, is taking this extremely hard (as can be expected.).... I texted Kate back, but this is just so fucking sad. For me, the most heartbreaking thing in Brokeback Mountain, the thing that really gets me and makes me tear up, is how much potential the characters had to make something of their life, how they could have and didn't, and it's just so sad. Posts: 3020 01/24/08 11:59 Mod Krys Block	I think I'm still in a state of denial about Heath. MC was the one who told me, and just like you Van, I thought it was some kind of cruel joke. Only, I know MC would never joke about such a thing, so I knew it had to be real even before I made sure and checked CNN. I know a lot of us here on the board are big fans of Brokeback Mountain, so I know you share the same feelings as I do about Heath and his passing. He did such a wonderful job of that role and made fans of us all (if we hadn't already been fond of him), and to hear such tragic news is just heartbreaking. Like Bryan said, it's going to be hard to watch Brokeback again, or any of his other movies for that matter. I just bought A Knight's Tale and watched it over the summer... who knows when I'll be able to watch it again. Also, I don't know if any of you guys have been thinking about this either, but Heath was thisclose to being our Christian, and that also sorta hits close to home for me as well. My heart goes out to all of his loved ones. It's particularly hard to deal with when you know he has a daughter and his career was at such a high point. Obviously Australia wants to tie him to as many homegrown projects as possible to claim him as ours so recent articles have even (though kinda wrongly) also mentioned his almost involvemnt in Baz's next film too. I saw MC's "miss you" BBM icon on LJ and that was one of the first times that I was just like... lip tremble Meanwhile... Also, I would like to apologize on behalf of America for our crap ass media. CNN, freaking CNN, had coverage of right outside the apartment, and was showing them wheeling him out, like, on a loop. As they were saying, "The family says they just wish the media to respect their privacy and refrain from speculation until..." and then launching right into speculating. Assholes. And yes, Katie, do you mean the Phelps people? I've had first hand experience with their "church," and since Heath's funeral (and I guess place of internment) is going to be NY, I can tell you that even if they find out where it's happening, law enforcement will take care of them. Yup, I mean the Phelps stuff (there was also some radio wank guy). It just got me so pissed off. I'm glad to hear that the police will be on top of it. And you know what, I wouldn't be surprised if his body is shipped back home to Western Australia. I don't know, it's hard. His parents and all are in Australia, but then, his daughter wont be able to visit the gravesite etc. But I think he'll be coming home. So wrong to talk of all this in terms of a body.
