The Sexiest one Alive Hugh Jackman comes with " Australia" in the cinema. We spoke with him over his body, Aborigines and fame

Hugh Jackman: At the beginning 20. Century was there a philosophy, which was based on the eugenics. At that time one believed that the mixture of races entails inferior descendants. Children, whom a white and Aborigine parents had, were removed from their family and had to work in families as officials or exercise other low jobs. It is a terrible section in the history, to which 1973 went to end. And only in the year 2008 the government for it apologized!

VANITYFAIR.DE: Did you have contact in your childhood to Aborigines?

Hugh Jackman: No. I heard only at the university of the stolen generation and was shocked. My university was very much left-oriented, and I thought, those exaggerate certainly with its narrations. Unfortunately everything was correct. With 19 I built also a few fellow students two houses in a Aboriginal municipality. I remained altogether three and a half months and new friends there found.

VANITYFAIR.DE: In "Australia "there are many Stunts. How did many of it accomplish you?

Hugh Jackman: Approximately 99 per cent. There was a Stunt, which even my coach would not make any longer: the scene, in which my horse buckelt. It was a wild horse. The chance to be injured is in this case rather highly - above all, since I know, what with the horses made, becomes, thus it so embossments.

VANITYFAIR.DE: What happens with the horses?

VANITYFAIR.DE: After four weeks rotations began the work for your new film "Wolverine ". The films differ much. How was for you?

Hugh Jackman: A large difference is that I along-produced "Wolverine "one and a half years long. I remember a meeting with kind the department of "Wolverine ". It was the same studio in Sydney, in which also on "Australia "one worked. We turned straight one "Australia "- scene, in which I was from head to foot full dust. In this presentation I emerged in the meetings for "Wolverine ", in order to then turn the next scene of "Australia ". That was exciting, in addition, very much exerting.

VANITYFAIR.DE: Do you have sometimes the feeling that you impair sexy image your role offers?

Hugh Jackman: Actually not. On the contrary: I was very much surprised, when I had gotten the role in a Comic filming like "X-Men ". I mean, I had before at the Londoner theatre in "Oklahoma! Hugh Jackman: The scene contains many wrong Bräune and oil. If somebody would have smoked at the set, I would have exploded immediately. And very favourable light. The remainder is genuine.

VANITYFAIR.DE: How did you rain yourselves?

Hugh Jackman: Would you believe me, if I said a riding? (Laughs) I already was in the preparatory phase for "Wolverine ", and needs many muscles. I had to train and eat much in the Fitnessstudio. I do not regard mean bodies as my property - it is more costume. The body, which is to be seen in "Australia ", is in my opinion somewhat too muskulös.

VANITYFAIR.DE: Do cattle drivers have no muscles?

Hugh Jackman: But. The genuine cattle drivers have much Kraft, but they do not have to eat much. Their bodies are actually somewhat thinner. I did not have only directly the time, in order to come the figure of a cattle driver near, without getting a cardiac infarct. I did, what was possible.

AS FAR as costumes go, the style set hasn't been this excited about a film since costume designer Catherine Martin's production work on Chanel No 5: The Film in 2003 and with the Boxing Day release of Australia, fashion fans are set to be delighted with the film's lavish costumes - which VOGUE.COM can reveal in these exclusive drawings from the sketchbook of Martin herself.

In the film, Nicole Kidman stars in the film as Lady Sarah Ashley, who arrives in pre-World War Two Darwin to take control of a cattle ranch, which she has inherited. "I just put myself in Catherine's hands and trust her completely," says Nicole Kidman of Martin's considerable talent. "She's already won one Academy Award, but she deserves to win many more because there are few people in this industry who are as abundantly talented as she is."

For Lady Sarah's shoes, Martin approached cobbler-to-the-stars Salvatore Ferragamo, who has a long association with Hollywood and its stars, having famously made shoes for Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis and Rita Hayworth. "One of the quintessential Ferragamo traits is their confidence to mix often exotic materials with more luxurious fabrics," said Martin of the luxury brand. "The showcasing of this trait and use of materials such as shagreen [fish skin] is a wonderful complement to the exoticism of Northern Australia during this period."

The luxury wardrobe injections didn't stop there; in the scene in which Lady Sarah arrives in Australia, she is joined by an exquisite set of white and blue luggage, which came courtesy of Prada. And Paspaley - Australia's premiere supplier of south sea pearls of the period - custom made the character's pearl drop earrings, while diamond jewellery designer Stefano Cantauri created a brooch, engagement and wedding rings, and diamond and coral earrings.

With Oscar whispers doing the rounds already, the fashion pack will be keeping a close eye on the sartorial sub-plot in Australia.
