Any chance that the Feb/March release will be pushed back at least to the orignal speculated March/April to give the international market more time to bring in money from the cinema? Particularly because China isnt getting the film till what Feb?? And aren't they the Kings of bootleging DVDs so...it'd make sense to wait till it had its run everywhere? Posts: 2440 01/08/09 03:06 fair dinkum	The other day I was at the supermarket and passed the stall where they sell bootlegs ( outside the actual supermarket) and there I saw Valkyrie, BButton, Revolutionary Road, I think Seven Pounds, etc... They didn't have AUSTRALIA yet - but I wouldn't be surprised if one turns up sometime soon (I would actually feel offended if AUSTRALIA doesn't turn up soon, given that all the others are already prominently displayed ). I think it is precisely because of the rampant copying that an early DVD release is being planned. If some people cannot go to the cinema for one reason or another ( distance, children, housework, etc), it is better to offer a legitimate option than let people just take advantage of a bootlegged copy. Most major movies release the DVD version by the 4th month from release of the movie in the USA. So, maybe sometime in March is the likely date for releasing the basic DVD? And so far they've done a decent job at keeping a good boot of AU from poping up online, trust me, Ive looked They couldnt get away with selling that dodge version that's around on a DVD. but like someone said, now that the screeners are out, any time now really. Posts: 2455 01/09/09 18:35 fair dinkum	I am suspicious as to why the CD is not being released ( rather strange, because almost every other movie gets a musical score CD released). I hope there are no stumbling blocks that may affect the release of the DVD ( basic and the collector's edition later on).

Maybe a bad move on his part announcing the latter, because I was surprised the other day to read a heavy baz fan say they would rent the first and wait for the second. Almost exactly what we dont wany for the abovementioned reasons. Posts: 2456 01/09/09 19:15 fair dinkum	Those who opted not to see or could not see the movie for whatever reasons but are still interested in it will most likely get a DVD or at least rent one as soon as the basic DVD is released. Plus of course those who saw the movie and loved it...and the Baz, Nicole and Hugh fans...and the serious fans of the cinematic medium. The collector's edition ( with all the bells and whistles and the scoops) will most likely attract the core fans of the movie and maybe fans of movies in general - and since that would be quite a long time to go ( most likely 9 months after the release of the basic DVD), I think it will not take away too much business from the first version. (and then they can give the proceeds to Baz to make his second DVD ) I think there is a considerable market for the DVD. People who enjoyed the movie and aren't diehard fans like us won't know about Baz's proposed special edition - they'll buy it. Then there will be all the people who didn't want to sit in a cinema for 2 and a half hours but are still interested - they'll buy it. And then there will be all those people who refused to see it because of the backlash, but can't help themselves and are still interested - they might buy it.
