Who are the other nominees for Costume Design ( movies involved)?
It looks like Benjamin Button is quite a favourite, although Slumdog did quite well, too. It's also interesting that Brad and Angelina are both nominees.

They're all period costumes:
Achievement in costume design * "Australia" (20th Century Fox), Catherine Martin
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

Oh goodness... the media is going to have a frenzy over this. I'm sorry, but Brad 100% did NOT earn his nomination.
I'm glad Australia was at least not shut out, but c'mon. This was a chance for a woman cinematographer to be nominated for the first time - and she did a fabulous job. I think it's just the hate of the movie...

I think 'Australia''s toughest competition is The Duchess. I really can't see any of the other ones winning.
I'm SO glad Australia got nominated for at least one Oscar. But, it really SHOULD'VE been nominated for Best Film, Best Actor (Hugh Jackman), Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), Best Supporting Actor (Brandon), Best Director (Baz), & Best Cinematography...BUT, thats the oscars for you.... When are the AFI awards? Is Australia able to be nominated for the afi's? VIEW MY STOP MOTION FILM HERE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8DvWZKH-sI |

Perhaps there's only one slot for a rock star. Didn't there used to be five nominees?
I'm pleased for Danny Boyle as I really like him. Not surprised that Pitt got carried to a nomination given that BB was nominated for just about everything else. Still puzzled by The Reader (Rotten Tomatoes 60%) but I'm pleased they didn't fall for that "supporting actress" crap. Enough with category fraud. I'm surprised that the nominees in all categories tie in so closely with the Best Picture.

Here's my sort of good/bad list:
GOOD: I actually liked The Reader (one of the few on OB).. but TDK still deserved a spot IMO.

Hengist wrote:Did The Reader actually get only 60% on RT? I'm surprised Sally Hawkins wasn't nominated since she was being mentioned everywhere I think. I wonder if this would be Kate's year, but I like that "category fraud" phrase. Best actor - will it be the comback kid Mickey? Or Frank L. for "body of work" - am really surprised they didn't give Clint a nod! Still pissed at nothing for Mandy Walker. But I think ratings may be ok (which is all I really care about now because of Hugh hosting) since Heath is nominated and the Brangelina factor I guess. And I forgot about Harvey Weinstein being associated with The Reader - I bet that played into the nom also.

This amused me in an article about TDK getting "blanked" (and I ignored the Hugh jab LOL) - so BB could be a "Forrest Gump ripoff"
(disclaimer - I haven't seen the movie) but "Australia" can't give winks and nods to movies of old?

WTF???????? No Springsteen???? I thought he was a total lock to win!!!!
No Dark Knight????? No Eastwood over Pitt? C'MON!!!!!!!! Well at least Australia got 1 nod I suppose, way better than shut out and much deserved by CM. So I thought TDK would be included in this so ratings would be through the roof along with Springsteen but I guess hmmm, no good, no good. |

For ONCE I actually AGREE with my buddy!
Whoa, wait a minute, whoa...Brad Pitt has been nominated for Best Actor for playing a passive sponge man with two and a half expressions? This is a performance abour makeup and CG. Button is very worthy film in some respects, but this is comic relief. This is ridiculous. Nobody in the movie-savvy world has even flirted with medium-level (much less high) praise for Pitt's performance in this film. |

After listening to Baz last night I thought all hope was lost (though secretly thought maybe he was just wishing for the best, but expecting the worst). anyway, Congrats to CM for the nod...agreed the lack of a cinematography nod is WTF, but now I have at least one horse to ride! ![]()
