Posts: 89 02/24/09 00:07	I'm freaking out right now!!!! I feel like such a fangirl, lol! It's 6:00pm which means......only 2 more hours! I dusted off my VCR, lol, and set it to record. I'll also be watching the Oscar web site for backstage stuff. Does anyone have any suggestions for sites or message boards to check during the Oscars for discussion, etc. ????????

Still the even is attracting a lot of attention for the movie, not only did we get a mention in the first 30 seconds, but there's plenty of people on australiamovie.net right now, and Im pretty sure it is peaked interest from the oscars. (and please ignore the contempt here towards Baz, bah) 3.02am: OK, so here is one of those 'bold risks' that Sid Ganis was promising. And as predicted it is musical in nature. Here is a grand slice of Depression-era escapism. It features Hugh Jackman in a top hat and Beyonce in a red dress (and a top hat), and they are singing show-tunes and Abba medleys at each other. On and on it goes, boldly going to riskiness and back, and afterwards the crowd applauds indulgently. I think my ears are bleeding. Someone fetch me a tissue. The "man who created that number" is Baz Luhrmann, apparently. He sits in his seat looking suitably sheepish as the applause peters out around him. And with that cut to a commercial break. One of these commercials is for razor blades. Many people thought this was a "mishmash" or some such nonsense. Hugh got a standing ovation for the opening.

I really enjoyed the show. I think he did a smooth and professional, entertaining job. However, not necessarily one that will go down in history as the best or worst. Some theatre folks said it wasn't up to the standards of a musical showstopper - haha, they are missing the joke! It is meant to parody the nominees ( and the host), not to advance any story ( as in a musical)! Proof enough - Ron Howard and Brian Grazer started the standing ovation! Has the Oscars audience ever stood up after the opening number in sheer delight? I may be wrong- but I am not sure if I remember any Great performance, Mr. Jackman!! And I like that you were self-deprecating ( was Baz laughing at the AUSTRALIA joke ... maybe the New Zealand one) PS: I officially hate you, Anne Hathaway Last Edited By: Jo 02/23/09 00:43. Posts: 40 02/24/09 00:07	I was SO SO SO disappointed Australia didn't get Costume Design - it really did deserve it - I mean, how many times do period movies win costume design????? And I LOVED Baz's musical number - should've had Nicole Kidman instead of Beyoncé though - would've made A LOT more sense!!!!! And P.S. - Nic looked AMAZING!!!!! I didn't see her at all until she presented best actress though! She's got her hair shorter again!!! I like that they showed part of the dance for the romance montage (should have shown the tree kiss though, that would get some more bums on seats in america). Posts: 41 02/24/09 00:07	I SAW THAT - I was so excited that they included 'Australia' in those tile things whenever they did the nominations - I kept saying "LOOK - Australia!" every 3 seconds it came up haha! And in regards to the New Zealand movie joke Hugh made, I don't think it was a dig at Australia at all, it was actually a compliment, and a dig to New Zealand! I REALLY want to see 'Australia' for a fourth time before it leaves the cinemas!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it...seeing it being pimped out a tiny bit at the Oscars brought back that massive Australia excitement from when I went to see it for the very first time! And btw - how funny is Hugh! I think he's a legend - I saw him at the Brissy Ent Centre when he did Boy From Oz, and he was brilliant - and showed everyone how awesome he is at the Oscars! And the whole Oscar broadcast I was on Nicole lookout - she's my all-time fav actress, and I was getting really worried she wasnt going to be there after all!!!! I really loved the way they did the whole 'five previous winners announcing the five nominees' thing - great idea! PS my bad about Nic's hair - I must have bad eyesight haha!
